FAIR Wizard is a powerful tool designed to streamline plan-driven data management for researchers. With it, you can easily create comprehensive data management plans and collaborate with your team throughout your research process. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to analyze the data management plans created by researchers, track specific projects, and gain a clear overview of ongoing work to ensure everything stays on course.
Analytics in FAIR Wizard lets you view an overview of all Knowledge Models, Projects, Users, and User Groups, with more features coming in future updates. It syncs data from other parts of FAIR Wizard, either automatically or whenever you need it. From there, you can easily explore both summaries and detailed insights and also create your own custom views.
Analytics is available in all FAIR Wizard plans and can be accessed through the app switcher.
By default, Analytics is not connected, but you can easily set it up. When you open Analytics for the first time, you’ll see a Connect button on the dashboard.
Click Connect to begin syncing your data. The first synchronization might take a little time, but future updates will be much quicker. You can also enable daily automatic synchronization in the Settings section, choosing a specific time for it to run.
Once synchronization is complete, you can explore overviews of key data, such as:
Each overview is presented as a detailed table specific to the entity. Let’s take a look at Projects as an example.
The project overview table displays key information like project name, phase, number of answered questions, metrics, and more. You can filter and sort by various fields. For instance, you can filter projects that use a particular knowledge model. There's also a search bar at the top to quickly find specific projects by name.
With the filters and sorting options, you can create customized views to focus on the data that matters most to you. You can also choose which fields to display, as not all are visible by default.
To set up a custom view, click the gear icon in the top right.
From there, select the fields you want to see, reorder them, and give your view a descriptive name.
Once saved, you can easily access your custom view from the dropdown menu in the top right. If you make changes to filters or sorting, simply click the save icon to update your active view.
This way, you can create multiple views tailored to your needs—whether it’s spotting projects that need extra support or tracking those with outdated document templates. The possibilities are endless!
Each overview table in FAIR Wizard allows you to export data as a CSV file for further analysis. To do this, simply click the Export CSV button in the top right corner.
Keep in mind that only the data currently visible on the table will be included in the export. To customize your export, you can adjust the number of items displayed per page or select All to export everything at once.
For Knowledge Models, Users, and User Groups, you can dive deeper by clicking on a name in the overview table to open detailed information.
For Users, you’ll see the projects they’re involved in, their roles, and which user groups they belong to. Similarly, for User Groups, you can view their members, their roles, and the projects they are associated with.
The most fascinating details, however, come from Knowledge Models. In addition to a Readme, a list of projects and KM editors using the model, you’ll find a section called Insights.
When working with a Knowledge Model, it’s crucial to understand how researchers are interacting with it. Insights show which questions are most frequently answered, which are often skipped, and what responses are typically selected.
In the Knowledge Model Insights section, you can explore the entire tree and see how often each question was Visible and Replied.
You can also dive into question-specific details, such as which options were selected in options questions or how often certain values were chosen in value-based questions.
These insights help you better understand how your Knowledge Model is being used and identify areas that might need improvement in future versions to better support your researchers.
In conclusion, FAIR Wizard’s Analytics features offer robust tools and insights that give organizations a comprehensive overview of their data management planning. With easy access to both high-level overviews and detailed information, teams can make informed decisions, identify areas for improvement, and enhance collaboration. The ability to customize views, focus on key metrics, and export data gives users full control over their data management process, making it more efficient and adaptable to their specific needs. This level of flexibility ensures that organizations can continuously refine their strategies for better results.
